Maryanne Vanegas

Hello SOEC community-

My name is Maryanne Vanegas. I wear many hats at our wonderful school! You or your child may know me as one of the three Art Explorers teachers and as the Science Enrichment teacher. I am also the Super School Director.

Thanks to our amazing parent association, SOPA, Super School has been a part of Sherman Oaks Elementary for over 25 years! I am lucky enough to have been involved In the program as a teacher as well as the director. I love this program! This is a great opportunity for your child to experience different programs in our safe school setting AND ease your burden of driving to various off campus locations!

So what is Super School? Super School is an after-school enrichment program. We provide a variety of fun filled, hands-on experiences for our students to enjoy. We provide classes such as science, dance, yoga, a variety of sports, chess, and a wide variety of art classes including drawing, painting and origami. Every instructor is fully fingerprinted, vaccinated and COVID tested and has experience in the field in which they teach. The majority of the staff has been with Super School for many years and many are on SOEC’s teaching staff. The list of classes changes every session. Sessions, usually three per year, run anywhere between 6 to 9 weeks. Classes are an hour, starting at 2:30 and ending at 3:30 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. On Tuesdays classes start at 1:30 and end at 2:30pm. When regular classes end, kindergarten and first grade students will be escorted by Super School staff to their classes. Second through fifth graders will walk themselves to class. At the end of the Super School class instructors will walk all children to the gate on Greenleaf Street, by the garden, to be released to their parents.

I am on campus every day and at the pick up gate at the end of the Super School day. You are always welcome to reach out to me with any inquiries regarding our program by email or Parent Square before, during and after Super School sessions run.
