Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Program
Transitional Kindergarten Program
Sherman Oaks Elementary Charter is proud to offer a Transitional Kindergarten program offered through LAUSD. The TK program is a new early childhood education program targeted for (but not restricted to) children who turn 5 from September 2 through December 2.
The Transitional Kindergarten benefits children who need time to develop socially, emotionally, physically, and/or intellectually. This developmental program acts as a bridge between a flexible environment and the more structured academic setting of Kindergarten.
The TK program is based on the California Kindergarten standards with focused instruction in literacy and numeracy along with strong emphasis on self regulation and social engagement. The daily schedule includes whole group instruction and activities, small group instruction, independent and “hands on” learning. The TK program will follow the full day schedule of Traditional Kindergarten with a 6 ½ hour program allowing students to enjoy lunch and recess with fellow Kindergarten friends and to participate in all Kindergarten activities such as music, art, P.E., computer lab, science and after school enrichment classes.
