How to Apply

As an LAUSD affiliated charter school, admission to Sherman Oaks Elementary Charter School is open to any California resident who wishes to attend; however, our first responsibility is to enroll families residing within our District-defined boundaries.  After the enrollment of resident students, if there are still openings, pupils who wish to attend the charter school may apply to participate in a public random lottery. Please visit our Incoming Family Events page in the New Families section for information on school tours and upcoming events for prospective families.

 

ENROLLMENT FOR STUDENTS LIVING WITHIN SOEC’s BOUNDARIES

Pick Up an Enrollment Packet:

-Resident families may pick up enrollment packages in the office starting  March 1, 2017.  Enrollment packages will be available from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm during days school is in session.  In order to pick up an enrollment packet, you must bring in a current utility bill, such as D.W.P or gas bill. Cable and phone bills are not acceptable to verify that SOEC is your resident school.

-You do NOT need to fill out the lottery application or any permit applications.

 

Return Completed Enrollment Packages:
-Resident families are encouraged to register new students as soon as possible. Enrollment for in boundary residents will begin April 4, 2017. Please do not wait!

-The office will process COMPLETE enrollment packages between the hours of 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.

-Incomplete enrollment packages will not be accepted.

-If your child is scheduled to receive immunizations between date to be determined for 2016-2017 enrollment and the first day of school, you may submit an incomplete enrollment package accompanied by a doctor’s note stating when the missing immunizations will be administered.
** PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE VERIFYING RESIDENCY AND CROSS-CHECKING FOR FRAUDULENT RESIDENCES.  ANY STUDENT FOUND TO HAVE ENTERED OUR SCHOOL USING A FRAUDULENT ADDRESS WILL BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY AND SENT TO THEIR HOME SCHOOL.

 

TK PROGRAM

Using California state standards for Kindergarten, teachers implement developmentally appropriate practices to accommodate various learning styles while integrating experiential “hands on” activities in an engaging setting. This program allows students to develop skills and concepts at their own pace and acts as a bridge between a more flexible curriculum and the academic rigor of elementary school.

Who can apply?

-Your child must turn 5 between September 2, 2016- December 2, 2016

 

FOR STUDENT’S LIVING OUTSIDE SOEC’s BOUNDARIES (NON-RESIDENT)

Complete Charter/Lottery Application:

-Non-resident families may pick up a lottery application in the office.  Filling out a lottery application does not guarantee admission into the school.

Return Completed Charter/Lottery Application:

-Charter Lottery Application for outside of School Boundary residents will be available from March 1 thru April 28, 2017.

-The public lottery will be held May 4, 2017. You do NOT need to be present, but all are welcome.

-Every lottery applicant will be assigned a number and every applicant will be sent a letter informing them of their number.

-We will not inform charter lottery applicants as to whether or not they are accepted into the school until August once the 2016-2017 school year begins.  This is because we need to verify how many in-resident students will be attending before we will know how many openings are available for non-residents.
