Sherman Oaks Elementary Charter’s curriculum includes an integrated, project and inquiry-based TK-5 curriculum closely aligned with California Standards and closely aligned to National Standards in the core areas of language arts, science, math, and social studies. Cross curricular, project-based learning is enhanced using technology, music, art, and dance instruction with a strong emphasis on hands-on learning utilizing our new media and science labs.

Project-based learning uses driving questions derived from students’ interest and the content of the grade-level state-standards. The projects are built around thematic units with an intellectual purpose. This approach shifts the major portion of instruction to a student-initiated, goal-driven, independent, intentional learning model with an emphasis on knowledge building.

Teachers in TK-5th grade collaborate to integrate curricular standards to maximize student learning and provide consistent professional development to support standard and innovative teaching methodologies.
